Healey Dell Nature Reserve

Healey Dell is a beautifully preserved wildlife sanctuary. An abandoned 1800 railway line is now a nature trail with magnificent views. A delightful scenery and spectacular waterfalls were carved by the River Spodden rushing through the woodlands for thousands of years. It used to power ancient corn, wool and cotton mills.

When we got there I couldn’t imagine how big it was. You can spend there all day and still probably miss some of the beautiful walks.

I was walking there with “Samba e Amor” playing slowly in my head by Joel Virgel, imagining Summer time at the same location. January the 8th. 2022. Thank you Nadya Harland for organising the trip.

Station Road, Rochdale, Lancashire, OL12 6BG – Healy Dell Nature Reserve address. Free admission.
